    Castillo de San Marcos is the most impressive of all the historical landmarks in St. Augustine. The Castillo de San Marcos served as an outpost of the Spanish Empire, protecting St. Augustine, the first permanent settlement by Europeans in the continental United States, and the primary sea route for ships returning to Spain from its completion in 1695.

    Public golf course - 27 hole championship golf course, with driving range, putting and chipping greens, shop, and restaurant. Golf lessons are offered by pro, Wes Tucker. This course has been repeatedly awarded "best public course in Florida" by Golf Digest. Open 7 days a week.
  • Cimarrone Golf & Country  Phone: (904) 287-2000
    Just north of St. Augustine , Cimarrone is a semi-private club, but open to non-members. The challenging 6891-yard, par-72 championship layout is scenic, and somewhat narrow with water hazards on very hole.
  • The King & The Bear  Phone: (877) 297-0363
    Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus have paired to create The King & The Bear at World Golf Village . With unparalleled beauty, challenge and design of the course features loblolly pines and open meadows on the front nine while the natural beauty of 200-year-old live oaks with huge shady canopies on the back nine. 
  • Ray Floyd St. Augustine Shores Golf Course  Phone: (904) 794-0303
    St. Augustine Shores Golf Club offers a 5719-yard, 18-hole layout. It also has one of the only lighted driving ranges in the area, which is open from sunrise to 9:00 p.m. daily. Semi-private golf course with driving range and restaurant.  Golf lessons are offered.  
  • Royal St. Augustine  Phone: (904) 824- GOLF
    St. Augustine 's newest course, Royal St. Augustine is open to the public and features a driving range, an 18 hole championship golf facility, and PGA instruction.
  • Slammer & Squire Phone: (877) 297-0363
    The Slammer and The Squire was created by local golf course designer Bobby Weed and PGA TOUR Design Services, with golf legends Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen tapped as player consultants. The Slammer and The Squire meanders naturally through native flatwoods and hardwood hammocks, and bordering wetland preserves and wildlife habitat.  
  • The Golf Club at South Hampton  Phone: (904) 287-7529
    The Golf Club at South Hampton is a semi-private golf course in St Augustine with a par 72 link-style course. This St Augustine golf course includes six sets of tees for all skill levels and 16 lakes, rolling fairways, and 60 contoured bunkers. 
     

  

Shopping  

 

  • Outlet malls and St. George street:  Like most cities, St Augustine shopping opportunities are spread all over the city and all a short distance from the Howard Johnson Inn. The majority of the specialty shops (handmade items, etc.) are located throughout the downtown St. Augustine area. The winding streets of the historic district are home to 35 antiques stores and 20 art galleries stocked full of original paintings, sculptures, bric-a-brac, fine furnishings, china, and other treasures. Brick-lined Aviles Street , has an especially good mix of shops for browsing, as does St. George Street south of the visitor center and the Uptown area on San Marco Avenue a few blocks north of the center. The Alcazar Courtyard Shops at the Lightner Museum have a good selection of antiques shops.Outlet shoppers will find plenty of good hunting 6 miles northwest of downtown St. Augustine in the St Augustine Outlet Mall, on the west side of I-95; and the enclosed, air-conditioned Belz Factory Outlet World on the east side of the Interstate. Stores in both malls are open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm, Sunday from 10am to 6pm .
